Dr Jart+ Black / Silver Blemish Base & Hanskin Blemish Cover

I have received numerous request to compare the Dr Jart+ Black Label Detox Healing Blemish Base with the Silver Label Rejuvenating Blemish Base. I only own the Silver Rejuvenating tube but read reviews that the Black Detox is a little more moisturizing.

Its been over a year since I used Dr Jart+ and I decided to get 2 trial tubes of the Dr Jart+ to make an actual comparision just for you girls!

I bought the 2 tubes including a Hanskin Blemish Cover from Gingerdip @ Blogspot about 2 weeks ago and here's the review!

She included an Etude House Moistfull sheet mask as a freebie too!

Dr Jart+ Black Label Detox Healing Blemish Base
Coverage : Sheer - Medium
Texture : Its a little thicker and is a little difficult to blend with a cosmetic wedge. I had to use my fingers to be able to blend it out.
Shade : This has a grey undertone which will be suitable for both pink and yellow undertones individuals.
Fragrance : This black label has a very fainty flora fragrance.
Oil-Control: Just like all reviews, this Black Label Detox Healing BB is a little moisturizing. I noticed shine within 2hours upon wearing it.
Dewy-ness: Because of the shine, there was a dewy finish on my face. Even after blotting with a piece of facial tissue, there are traces of the dewy look.
Price: S$14 for this 15ml tube
Overall Comments: I wasn't bearing much hope about the oil control as most of the reviews did mention that its a little moisturizing. It might be because it has anti-wrinkle properties and that will suit matured skin that often, is a little drier. I would recommend this to those who has a dry to normal skin type. Else, do use a good oil control primer. Oh yes, this does come with an SPF of 25 so you can skip your normal sunscreen.

Dr Jart+ Silver Label Rejuvenating Blemish Base
Coverage : Medium - Full
Texture : Comparing to the Black Label, this is easier to apply and blend with a cosmetic sponge. Its texture is more liquified and easier to manage.
Shade : This has a grey undertone which will be suitable for both pink and yellow undertones individuals.
Fragrance : Unlike the Black label, this Silver Label is fragrance-free.
Oil-Control: Unlike the Black label, oil control for this Silver Label is way better. It isn't the best among my stash of BB Creams but its still pretty manageable. Shine appeared only after 6hrs. Pretty decent IMO.
Dewy-ness: Its a semi-dewy finish.
Price: S$13 for this 15ml tube
Overall Comments: In comparision with the black label, I very much prefer the silver label because of the oil control, coverage and higher SPF (silver label has an SPF of 35 while black label only have SPF 25). If you have combination to oily skin, opt for this Silver Label instead.

Hanskin Blemish Cover
As the name suggests, this is a blemish concealer and not a BB Cream. Its a tinted spot corrector aka concealer for blemishes with healing properties similar to Oxy Cover (the flesh tone acne-pimple medication with 10% benzoyl peroxide) that I was using when I was much younger.

Unlike the Oxy Cover which is very yellow - orangey in shade, this Hanskin Blemish Cover is of a fairer beige with greyish undertones. Since it has a greyish undertones, it will fit both pink and yellow undertones complexion. Too bad its only available in one shade which I reckon will be more suitable for those with a medium fair skin tone.

Its coverage is pretty amazing. A little goes a long way. It can conceal your blemishes pretty well without caking up. With regards to its healing properties, I must say it works pretty well too. Last week when my sleeping routine was reversed (I was sleeping in the day and awake at night), my skin became pretty cranky and started having a little breakout but with the help of this blemish cover, I managed to clear up those nasty spots just before Bestie's bro's wedding on Saturday.

The only drawback is that, it does not really last. It tends to fade / melt away if you do not have a foundation primer beneath it.

I suppose it works as it claim, only if it comes with 2 shades, a fairer and a darker shade so as to suit a wide variety of skin tones. Oh yes, I paid S$13 for this full size tube.

Hope these reviews did help you lovelies!

Once again, I've gotten these 3 products from Gingerdip @ Blogshop.

i hate dr jart black label bb!
no joke, this is the worst bb i've ever tried, and i've tried quite some. it's dark (i have fair skin, around NC/NW15), it oxidizes, it breaks me out.
what's not to hate? :P

it's just my personal experience though. another friend definitely loves dr jart bb creams since she thinks the healing properties is very visible :)

to each her own! hahaha.

yea, different products react differently on different skin. :P

though the black label does not break me out but its too moisturizing for me. fortunately i got the trial tube. i can use it when i'm in a dryer climate i suppose. :P

(Anonymous): About BB Cream

Just to serve as a refference point, here is a conversation I had with a BB Cream consultant on live chat. I think the questions I asked were pertinent and that Jace's answers should would help in your research about BB Cream:

>Hello. Is this a real BB Cream related chat?

>I have a few questions

Jace (Cust Support 2) : i can try to answer them

>I've read many reviews and I just want to clear up some aspects

>Do BB creams cause breakouts?

>?

Jace (Cust Support 2) : no. but there's no one cream that fits all. some people i think had experienced this. also if you have oily skin and you get a moisturising bb cream then I guess you might experience that effect too.

>Do they clog pores?

Jace (Cust Support 2) : no. they're light on the skin so it doesn't clog the pores.

>Are there any side-effects of prolonged usage?

Jace (Cust Support 2) : no adverse effects have been reported. regular use is actually recommended to help skin improve faster.

>If I may ask, what is your beauty routine?

>?

Jace (Cust Support 2) : well, i'm not prone to acne so i usually just use toners to clean my face and bb cream when i go out during daytime.

>You're lucky. I never had severe acne. But every 2-3 months a few pimples appear for some reason. They dissappear after a week. Strange. Do you honestly see improvements with your skin after using BB creams or do you have good skin to begin with and you're just using for the aestetic purpose instead of the treatment purpose?

Jace (Cust Support 2) : thanks. but I do get acne too before. some bb creams can be great for controlling, healing and reducing that. so it's best to use combination creams. like pick one for everyday use then when you encounter a few pimples then use the formulated ones that can clear that out and just maintain regular use so you'd get less and less occurrences of pimples and improve the overall quality of your skin.

>It makes sense. So, would it be correct to use for example dr jart silver label for everyday and BRTC Perfect recover balm for the times when I have pimples?

Jace (Cust Support 2) : bb creams is regarded more as a medical product because it's not just a cover up, it actually treats and improve your skin.

Jace (Cust Support 2) : yes.

>I am more interested in treating my face and making it healthy. I just want to be sure BB cream works for me. I don't normally wear makeup because I found it is aggresive to my skin. I researched and when I read about the overall positive effects of BB cream, I wanted to know if it will help me. I have fair normal skin, and with the exception of those occasional pimples, all I wish is to keep it smooth and clean and get rid of the pesky blackheads on my nose. What would you reccomend to work for me?

Jace (Cust Support 2) : for the black heads, the best way to remove them is by using facial scrubs. then maintain with bb cream. the brtc and the dr jart is a good choice. It's our best seller and it works for a lot of our customers as they buy those over again.

>I understand. I have just 3 more questions and I will let you be. You're probably tired of me.

>Does the color change in time? Does it last for 8 hours or does it require re-applying?

Jace (Cust Support 2) : oh, it's ok. no the color doesn't change. and need for reapplicationwill depend on climate conditions.

Jace (Cust Support 2) : or temperature conditions.

Jace (Cust Support 2) : but it usually lasts all day.

>Thank you very much for your time in answering my questions, Jace. My final question is, where do you sell BB cream in Europe?

Jace (Cust Support 2) : we only sell online. we currently don't have physical stores or branches. we are not aware of which stores might carry or sell them locally in your area. but we do deliver worldwide!

> Ok. I think I've learned enough to make a decision. Thanks again, Jace. Have a nice day!

Jace (Cust Support 2) : you're most welcome! :)

vain_angel85: Dr Jart

I tried the Dr Jart silver. As of your review, the oil control is wonderful but the colour match is bad.Made me too fair, like those chinese wayang face.
Black label is a little better.Just find it harder to blend and gave me some bumps after some time. Now rotating between bb creams and LF.Slight improvement.Their new Blue label bb cream is tempting me to get it.haha..
I seem to have all kinds of things to buy every month.

kimoko: Re: Dr Jart

yea, the shade is alittle off but if you notice, when it oxidizes, it will kinda match your skin tone and its usually during noon (if you wear it from morning).

what LF are you using? :P

me too! i think that's typical of all girls! haha

This was my 1st BB Cream. I quite like it. It sort of blends into my skin after awhile. But now I prefer the Niu Er's BB Cream. I love the smell but don't like it that it doesn't has SPF...

Thu, May. 21st, 2009 03:25 am (UTC)
kimoko

yea, i do agree that upon application, the shade is a little weird but once it oxidizes, it kinda matches your skin tone.

the niu-er bb cream is a little moisturizing for me too but my bestie loves it. hehe

Thanks for all your great reviews! I live in the States, so I've got to order all my Asian cosmetics online and it's good to have some idea of what to expect from different products. You mentioned that the silver Dr. Jart is okay, but not really the best - do you have a top 5 list? It'd be great if you could post a brief all time favorites list. I've browsed your reviews and they're really thoughtful. Thanks so much!

my top 5 really differs as i may like this bb cream for its coverage but hate its oil control or love it for its oil control but not its coverage / SPF / dewy/ matte. so it really depends on what I really require for the day. ;)

do let her know you read the price here.

Sat, May. 23rd, 2009 05:12 am (UTC)
nattalliee

yes once u apply on skin does it dry easily? or take long time to dry?

okies thanks babe.. will let her know the price u got.. thanks so much for ur help :)

Sun, May. 24th, 2009 06:40 am (UTC)
kimoko

yea it does.

for this concealer, i apply it before foundation (my normal routine is concealer after foundation). after applying the concealer, the time i take to prepare my foundation is just sufficient for it to dry and you know its not a long time. ;)

thank you! your review of hanskin blemish cover really helped ^^ As for the dr. Jarts, I've tried both of them. for some time the black label actually helped my skin and it improved drastically. But somehow i think my skin got used to it? But anyways it started breaking me out so I couldn't use it anymore :'( The silver one on the other hand broke me out almost right away (about a day after I tried it) :'(
