Metholatum ACNES Medicated Anti-Acne BB Cream

I bought the Metholatum ACNES Medicated Anti-Acne BB Cream during my trip to Taiwan 2 weeks ago and quite a number of you are really interested to know how it fares since I loved it so much and bought a backup tube the day before I left Taipei because it is not available in Singapore nor in Hong Kong where Metholatum ACNES Medicated Skincare products can be found. It retails for NT390 which is approximately S$17 for a 30g tube which is pretty affordable!

This BB Cream can be found at Watsons and Cosmed if you are in Taiwan. At Watsons, it is found together with the rest of the BB Creams while in Cosmed, it is found together with the Metholatum ACNES Medicated Skin Care products. For some weird reason, I could not find this at Sasa.

I came across this BB Cream on eBay quite some time ago and started hunting for it in Singapore and Hong Kong but I could not find it but found out that it can be found in Taiwan when Luna bought it from her previous trip to Taipei and so when I was making a list of stuff to get in Taiwan, this was ranked the #1 product that I HAVE to get it!

Metholatum ACNES Medicated Anti-Acne BB Cream with SPF 20
Coverage
: Medium
Texture : Creamy
Shade :  NC20 / NW15
Undertone : Slightly yellow
Fragrance : None
Oil-Control: 6+hours
Dewy-ness: None. It leaves a Semi-Matte finish.
Overall Comments: It has been quite a while since I last tried a BB Cream that gives a matte or even semi-matte finish. Though the shade is a little on the fairer side but I still love this BB Cream! It gets absorbed by the skin really quickly and leaves a semi-matte finish almost quite instantly which makes application a breeze! And that matte finish stays on for quite some time! If you are afraid it might get a little oily, set it with a powder. When I was in Taiwan, the heat at Kaohsiung was so unbearable but this BB Cream stayed on my face without budging after I set it with the Maybelline Dream Matte Powder. It contains salicylic acid which is always a plus to help curb any breakouts (which also explains that they have printed 'Anti-Acne' on the packaging). Downside of this? It is only SPF20 without any PA, not to mention PA+/PA++/PA+++ so I definitely will not rely on this for sunscreen. I wear this after I have worn my HG sunscreen, the ACNES UV Tinted Milk with an SPF of 50 PA++ and I am well protected from the sun! I have always had good impression on the ACNES Medicated Skin Care products and this is no exception! This BB Cream has risen up to my Top 5 BB Creams list! Pity that this is not available in Singapore nor Hong Kong else I can expect this BB Cream to be a hit! Just like the skin care! That is why I bought a backup tube as I do not see myself returning to Taiwan anytime soon. If you are a BB Cream user and have tried ACNES Medicated range of products that does not break you out, you HAVE to try this BB Cream! Go get a CP from anyone who is heading to Taiwan or from eBay!

Distributor of Metholatum ACNES in Singapore and Hong Kong, if you happen to read this, bring this BB Cream into Singapore and Hong Kong please? Not unless it contains ingredients that aren't approved by HSA in Singapore and Hong Kong?

The box was entirely in Traditional Chinese but fortunately the ingredient list is in English!

My little stash of Metholatum ACNES Medicated range of products that I am loving. My HG sunscreen is the ACNES UV Tinted Milk SPF 50 PA++! Managed to pick up a backup bottle during the Watsons Members Preview Event Sale last week where it was on a 30% discount! I realized I did not write a review of this sunscreen! I shall write it when I am done with my current bottle and gonna open the new bottle.

I received the Creamy Wash from thesamplestore from being one of their top referral last year. I reviewed the product which I tried some samples here. It is a very affordable facial cleanser for oily skin prone to acne! The Power Lotion was a prize from playing Pick A Box on their Facebook Page. Have yet to try it though. I ought to get the Oil Control Moisturizer so that I can review the cleanser, toner and moisturizer as a set. The last Watsons Members Preview Sale had a 30% discount on the products and I regret not getting it! Hopefully during the next Watsons Preview Sale, this range of products will go on 30% discount again!

For traveling, the Oil Control Cleansing Sheet is one of my personal favourite! I reviewed it here! I do like the Biore Cleansing Oil Sheet but I only buy it when they go on sale of S$1.90 per pack of 10 sheets (I usually buy 7-8 packs when they go on sale), else I will get this Metholatum ACNES Oil Control Cleansing Sheet.

The Metholatum ACNES Medicated Sealing Jell is a spot treatment but does not work for me. It only works as a really good oil controling primer! I wrote the review here. I am almost out of it and forgot to pick it up during the Watsons Members Preview Sale last week! I only remembered getting my sunscreen!

Unfortunately, the Clay Mask in their range contains Tea Tree else it will be an extremely affordable deep cleansing mask!
*for those who are new to reading my journal, I am allergic to Tea Tree.

My personal shopping list should the products go on 30% at Watsons again:
1) ACNES Oil Control Moisturizer
2) ACNES Foaming Wash
3) ACNES Oil Control Mask
4) ACNES Sealing Jell (to replace my almost gone tube!)
5) ACNES Oil Control Cleansing Sheet (stand-by for my next trip, be it for work or leisure)

I am quite a fan of this range huh? If only there is an entire range of cosmetic products that compliment the skin care. An ACNES pressed powder or concealer perhaps?

Sounds great but sad to say I am allergic to this range of products.... The toner and moisturizer breaks me out very badly....

I've used many ACNES products too and my favourites are the Tinted Milk and the Oil-Control Moisturizer. Creamy wash was pretty good too. Sealing Jell did not work on me and I do not like the powder lotion. The mask is also so-so.

the sealing jell does not work as a spot treatment but works VERY VERY well as a oil control primer before my makeup! love love it and will continue to use it! =D

First time commenting here, I've been following your LJ for quite some time now. Have to say, thanks for keeping your reviews real. Other blogs can get super gimmicky!

For Acnes, the white wash has been my go to cleanser. I've been using it for close to 2 years already, and it more or less gets the job done of cleaning my face. However, I too do not take well to tea tree, so the sealing jell is really not a good product for my face.

thank you for finally commenting! =D

does the Whitening property actually work?

i am so glad that there are quite a number of you who are sensitive to tea tree too!

Hmm, I can't say that by just using the face wash, my face is significantly fairer. However, I do believe that it does help a little in lightening post-acne red marks, and perhaps a little with preventing residual tans from building up. Also I notice that after cleansing, my face does appear brighter, but of course, it'll get dull some time after, heh.
Yes, tea tree is a no go for me, but I think it had to do with how I used it in the past (I applied it neat, undiluted and in copious amounts - so silly!). But usually tea tree products will make my breakouts super inflammed and angry, and the post-inflammatory red marks are significantly darker when I use tea tree oil products. Oh well!

i think that is how i got sensitive to tea tree too!

when I was much much younger, i apply undiluted tea tree on my acne, it'll have this burning sensation and being ignorant, i thought that was actually healing my blemishes but it was actually burning my skin! haha. how ignorant. =(

ACNES' sunscreen is my holy grail too and I am so glad to have found it! Do review on the moisturiser; I am still in search of a good moisturiser. I need a trip to Taiwan to get those BB cream.

i stumbled upon it quite some time ago and had to get a CP from Taiwan and subsequently found it in Hong Kong before it was launched in Singapore. i'm so glad it is so affordable! =D

yea, i'll review the moisturizer with the powder lotion once I get around buying it! =D

get it off eBay if you can't wait to make a trip there! =D

kimoko: Re: mentholatum acnes 20% off at watsons now.

for products that do not work for me, i'll pass them to my gfs/sister/mother.

if it still does not work for them:

for cleansers, i will use it to clean my brushes.

for moisturizers, i'll use it as a hand/body lotion.

for sunscreen, i'll use it on my body.

for toner, i'll use it to spot clean my brushes.

and i do not scrimp on products, i do apply a liberal amount of product so that i can use it faster. :)

haha SHIT i know i am definitely going to succumb and get this when i head to TW in Aug! ahhhhh. you are such an enabler!

oh i think in a previous comment i asked u if u saw naruko tea tree series - am really loving that. do u rem where u saw it for sale in TW?

and also, the rejoice leave in conditioner u got - is it avail in SG?

have you tried the innisfree herb no sebum translucent powder? was looking at it in koreabb.com.sg and... it looks tempting! :P

Thu, May. 26th, 2011 10:46 am (UTC)
kimoko

well, let me know it works for you once you have tried it! =D

the tea tree series is the one for oily skin right? there isn't an entire tea tree range. i remember this as i wanted to try naruko but the range of products for oily skin contains tea tree. =(

anyway, i saw a selected range of naruko products at both watsons in XMD. not the entire range but quite a substantial amount of products. :)

nope, the rejoice leave-in conditioner is not avilable in Singapore. I first bought it from BKK and found it in Hong Kong and now Taiwan. :)

nope i have not. my HG pressed powder is the maybelline dream matte powder and loose powder - the MUFE Super Matte. I have not found anything else that seems to live up to the oil control of those 2 powders. =D

i use mentholatum oil control film for about 3 years... love it!
after your review will try to get the bb cream also, how do you think is it possible to get a sample of it?

Thu, May. 26th, 2011 10:43 am (UTC)
kimoko

unfortunately, you are not located in Singapore else I could actually sell you a sample.

the shipping to Russia will probably cost more than the cost of the sample.

alternatively, you can buy the retail product from eBay! =)

yes, in fact i see often give aways or blog sales between singaporean girls, and usually it's only for local people :( pity, sometimes you have really interesting things :))

yes, sure i will see it on ebay, but i don't know if Mentholatum has samples for BB in general - will check it now!

the grass is always on the greener on the other side! =D

well, if you really want something that is not available in russia, let me know, i'll CP them for you! =)

i doubt there are commercial samples of the mentholatum BB Cream. you can only get them from those who owns it and is willing to decant it. :)

I miss Texas! I lived next door to a shop that sold Asian cosmetics. The first time I went, I purchased the Acnes sunscreen and I loved it! I just needed a protection for my face (I don't completely trust the sunscreen in makeup). I'd put it on under my makeup :)

hi there! just a quick question! is it necessary to remove the sunscreen with a makeup remover prior washing the face? or is normal cleanser enough to wash off the sunscreen? thanks so much!!!

i personally feel that you should as you might never know if the sunscreen has penetrated into your pores. better be safe than sorry. :)

Hey kimoko can u do a comparison between the skin food aloe bb cream and the mentholated acnes bb cream? Thanks alot!

Thu, Jun. 23rd, 2011 02:32 am (UTC)
kimoko

the coverage of skin food aloe is heavier than this acnes bb cream. the oil control of skin food aloe is better than the acnes bb cream too. but having said that, there have been alot of discussion of the high content of the silicon in skin food aloe that has broke alot pple out and they experienced horrible clogging of the pores too.

i have not experienced breaking out and clogging of pores though.

hope this helps. =)
